I'm not talking about pregnant women, I'm talking about when you see a mom with her kids with her out at a store/restaurant/etc. and the mom is smoking a cigarette.
What about when you see a person smoking a cigarette in a vehicle where there are children?
Do you even take a 2nd look? I'm just wondering, because the car thing really bothers me when I see it..
Suggestion:
My basic gut reaction to ANYONE smoking is "Why would anyone ever start smoking, knowing what we know now [and have known for many decades] about the dangers and addictiveness."
(Around here we rarely see people smoking — our town has a strict smoke-free-community law, and smoking isn't permitted in stores or restaurants.)
EDIT: While I certainly agree that smoking in a car with kids is dangerous/stupid I have major issues with making it illegal. THere does come a point (IMO) beyond which we can't reasonably legislate what adults can and can't do in the privacy of their own home (or car). If we pass laws against everything that COULD potentially be harmful, where would it stop?

I think if they're both outside and the mom is making an effort to keep the smoke away from the kids it's ok, but the car thing is just wrong… Not an issue here in NY for restaurants or stores – no smoking!
I think it's incredibly sad and I feel sorry for the children.
I don't think mothers should smoke around their children at all. In the car is especially bad because of the secondhand smoke, but even doing it around them outside is setting such a horrible example. It's dirty and it stinks…I hate it.
My mom smokes, and shes quiting this weekend, and if she sticks with her plan of quitting ill be so proud of her, and it will make me alot happier too.
Shes usually in bad moods because of smoking, and i really hate to see her fill her lungs up with that stuff. It's like watching her die one cigarette at a time!
My mom smokes with me in the car, and i tell her i cant breath but she doesnt.
it smells HORRIBLE. and its DISCUSTING.
and she leaves the tinest crack in the wondow for the smoke to go out. -.-
I don't like it. It looks like the mom doesn't really care about anything, the only thing she cares about is smoking her cigarette. I like this question by the way. It looks trashy and hillbillyish. My mom used to smoke and i was in the car with her when i was really little like i think i was still in a booster seat or something but anyways. I just told her to throw that away and she did and she never (i think) smoke again. I was like "mommy throw that away!" and she did. I don't know why she did throw it away really but maybe it was because my voice as a little kid made her feel guilty. lol I was a cute an innocent little girl and i guess she felt guilty. lol so yea
i ahve to admit i smoke but i go out by my front door …. i dont allow it in the house …. as he starts getting older i will satrt to smoke out the kitchen.
if im outdoors i will smoke with him but making sure that i keep the smoke away from him as much as possible.
smoking in the car however is wrong even if the windows are open … its a confined space and not fair on the poor baby
Well…the car thing bothers me too. But unfortunately, I see it a lot more since they put a ridiculous smoking ban in place in my state. They're putting restrictions on where people can smoke, but of course, they can't tell people they can't smoke in their cars, so that's where they end up doing it. With their kids in there of course.
If it's outdoors, it doesn't bother me so much, but in an enclosed place like the car…ugh.
Overall it's not really any of my business, but I can't pretend to be perfect…
It is actually illegal to smoke in a car with a child under the age of 18 where I live, so it is not something I see ever. If I did see it, I would take their number plate down and call the police, as they are literally breaking the law.
If they are just having a smoke and their child is nearby – I don't think twice.
I would never be so shallow as to judge a person just because of something like that
