What Are the Risks of Smoking Weed While Breast Feeding?

I have heard so many contradicting things concerning this. I do not want a lecture, I want the real, medical, effects of smoking weed while breastfeeding. Does anyone posses unbiased knowledge that can help me find this answer?

Suggestion:

Chemicals ingested by you smoking weed will pass into your milk. As well as the negative effects these can have on brain development you are passing on chemicals which are habit forming or bluntly put addictive.
If you mix with tobacco to spin it out add those chemicals to the list youre passing on.
Then theres the passive smoking if shes in the house with you, so indirectly inhaling herself for the same effects you experience.
I know Mums who have smoked during pregnancy & after & cite no problems. I also know others who did the same & kids have various learning, behavioral & respiratory problems, none of course lay blame at their pot smoking its just the way their kids are…
I cant cite medical proof, Im not a Dr.
My logic is when talking prescribed meds when BF or pregnant & advised against it we dont just blow off that advise we dont take the meds, the same should apply here

No lecture, but also no real medical effects. I'd go to the Medical Journals (google scholar) if you want REAL research.
I donated breast milk for 3 years to the hospital and I'd say – caffeine rich fizzy drinks, alcohol, nicotine, additives, colours etc. regularly eaten by other breast feeding mothers I know and passed on daily to their children must have as great an impact as a couple of joints.
I did do some research on recreational drug use and pregnancy (not breastfeeding) and found that many other 'normal' activities were highly damaging but less frowned upon.
I'd go looking for that unbiased knowledge in a research community and make my personal decisions based on my own values.

One of my breastfeeding books that I borrowed from WIC says….
Levels of Cannabis in breastmilk are eight times higher than in the mothers blood, This can make the baby drowsy.
From this I would think that if you take the risks of you smoking it and times that by 8 then those are the risks that your baby will have.
My advice is that if you choose to smoke weed supplement your child with milk from another source. Also I'm not if it is the same for weed or not but I was told by my lactation consultant that if you are drinking alcohol you follow the same "drunk" guidelines. What I mean is it taking about 1 hour for every drink you have before it is out of your milk. If you are feeling the effects of the alcohol than it is still in your milk. She also told me that I wouldn't need to "pump and dump" that it evaporates from my milk.
Sorry I couldn't give you any other information,. i hope that I have given you a good starting point.

I am a mother of 3. Every once in a while a do smoke pot. So here is what I know..
Anything that the mother ingests;smoking, drinking, prescription meds, and even food goes through a mothers breast milk. The food a mother eats provides essential nutrients to the baby. What we eat even effects the taste of the breast milk. If you eat alot of garlic and spicy foods the milk becomes pungent to the baby and could cause gassiness, for example. A newborn will get drunk if there is alcohol present in breast milk from a mother drinking. They sell alcohol strip testers at Walgreens for this or there is the classic, "pump and dump." Smoking;(cigs or pot) causes the 'drug' to go through the bloodstream and also enter the milk supply. Nicotine/THC will be present during the transfer of milk to baby. Essentially causing the baby to get high as well. All of these things affect the brain development of the baby and all of these things can be detected in the babies bloodstream as well.

Get yourself a vaporizer if you are going to do this while you have a child. I would not recommend introducing anything like a drug to your child unless it is absolutely necessary.

I don't know you or your situation just stop smoking it.

You can find doctors lawyers apartments and clinics at 420roomsearch.com you could call around and ask the doctors listed there for more info.

I don't recommend consumption of this for anyone under 21 your consumption ends up in the breast milk. It may at the very least leave you child with a strong desire for the medication when they grow up.

Good luck with what ever you choose.

WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING SMOKING WEED AND TAKING CARE OF A BABY

jeez lady.. do us all a favor and do heroine instead.. hopefully you'll overdose by the time your baby is old enough to recognize that he/she has a retard for a mom.

All knowledge on this subject is going to have some kind of bias. Look it's up to you, but I doubt it's smart to pump your body full of chemicals while breastfeeding.

1 Thing is certain, it is not good for your health and it may affect your child's health too.

I would assume the risks are less than smoking while 7 months pregnant.
