So I Quit Smoking but Now I Feel Even Worse.?

When I was younger I had asthma. Once I turned 14 though all my symptoms went away. Then for some dumb reason I started smoking a year after I joined the Navy and have been smoking for a little under 5 years. Well about 9-10 days ago I quit but now feel like crap. I get shortness of breath at the same time every day around 8-9PM and I have an incredible cough. I get that the cough is just my lungs getting their revenge on me by cleaning themselves out, but what's with the shortness of breath? I do have to mention also that I am on blood thinners due to a blood clot I had in my leg back in July (about 3.5 months ago). I haven't had any complications with the clot since I caught it extremely early but I'm worried that maybe a part of the clot got to my lungs and I may be experiencing a Pulmonary Embolism. I don't think it is a PE though just because I'm told if it was a PE I would be short of breath 24/7 and I'd also have pain in my chest while breathing. It feels as though when the SOB starts it feels more like an asthma attack but like I said I have been asthma symptom free for almost 11 years. What's the deal? Is the SOB just my lungs cleaning out or could my asthma be back or worse yet does it sound like a PE (i seriously doubt the latter).

Suggestion:

Well i can sort of relate of that i started stress smoking a few weeks back due to my new field of work but for the past day and a half i have been getting pains in my chest when i breath in. I think the best thing is to go and get a consolation and airway tests at a medical centre, at least that's what i plan on doing when i get a few moments. It doesn't sound like a PE though but i'd need to do some more research on the repository system and smoking to give you an decent answer but if it is irritating you i would just see a doctor because your not going to get many pulmonologists on here!
