Hi,
Today I was put on the Microgynon 30 contraceptive pill for 3 months until i can get an implant put in.
I'm 19, not overweight and do not smoke more than 12 cigarettes a day usually.
My GP asked if i smoked and i said yes. She said this was not good but didn't say anything more about it. I have since googled whether you can smoke on the pill and every website is saying not to as it can cause a greater risk of blood clots and heart attacks etc.
What are my chances of this happening? I knew there were risks with smoking and the pill, that's partly the reason why i asked for the implant, but as they can not give the implant yet, the pill is a temporary measure.
Is any one using this, or know anyone using this pill who smokes and can help me out a bit, I'm scared to light up but I'd find it difficult to quit!

Hi, I'm on Microgynon 30 and I smoke. Not alot, and no more than 12 a day like yourself. I've cut down alot and usually only smoke a few a day (if that most of the time) I told my doctor I didnt smoke because at the time I got the pill I hadnt smoked in a while.
there is alot of things on the pill that COULD happen eg. side effects etc….but rarely do. They say it increases chances of certain cancers…but you have to remember the possibilities are very small, otherwise the pill would be redeemed as unsafe and not given out to patients.
my advice is not to worry 
my friend has been on the pill longer than me and smokes around 40 a day…shes had nothing.
As its just a temporary measure for you as well then you wont have this on your mind for ages…but for now, dont stress about something that most probably wont happen
