I am 17. I've been smoking regularly for about a year, and when I say regularly I mean maybe 2-3 a day, some days only one, and many days I have not had any. It really doesn't feel like an addiction. Just something I do out of habit. Like I haven't smoked since the day before yesterday, and I'm not dying to have one I'm just planning on having one because I want to. I don't feel like I need the nicotine. I've mostly only had regular ciggs, belmonts, du mauriers, sometimes players. What I'm wondering is even though any amount of smoking is bad, obviously this isn't nearly as bad as like 10 a day right?? as long as I don't gradually keep smoking more…..and are 'lights' really better for you? is it worth it to only smoke those because they're better for your health? AND are flavoured cigarettes no better or worse for you?? I would prefer to have those chocolate honeytimes but they're more expensive.
I have eating issues so if you tell me to stop smoking, I'm not going to listen. It's not something I do for the fun of it to impress younger kids at school because I'm not really in high school. It's more of a substitute than an addition. And as soon as you tell yourself 'OK i'm gonna stop smoking now' you just want to because it's almost entirely psychological. Also, telling me to solve my eating issues is about 10x as pointless as telling me to stop smoking.
Another also, please don't factor in my age here. I don't see how a number has anything to do with this besides the fact that I can't technically buy my own cigarettes. You can't tell how mature or knowledgeable a person is just by how old they are.
Suggestion:
*sigh*
smoking 10 a day is much worse than smoking 2 or 3, yes. It's bad altogether, but I don't think that smoking a few every other day is going to hurt you. But, please, I'm not lecturing you or anything cuz I'm in high school too, just consider the fact that you're hurting yourself. It's okay and I know it's a problem to stay thin I so understand I really do. but there are other ways!!
I agree that stopping smoking is entirely psychological and it's pointless to try to quit unless you're mentally positive, so until then, don't smoke more than 2 a day please….
Oh and as a kid that has been dealing with family smoking for a while, I feel really embarrassed and awkward when people tell me I smell like smoke because it's not my fault.
