Are there dangers to a child to smoke in a house *not* while they are here but *hours* before? I smoke in one room of my house on a different level opposite of the main family room (which is where the 1 year old would be). I get that smoke travels but I usually only have a few cigarettes a day there not like a whole pack or something. I do go outside a lot of the time. But my sister is getting angry at me for smoking in my house even though by the time she comes over it's been at *least* 8 hours since I've had a cigarette in my house.
Any there really major dangers of me doing this? Any links appreciated.
Suggestion:
So let me get this straight – you don't have any children of your own. You smoke 3-4 cigarettes a day in your own home. You smoke in one room of the house away from the family room. Your sister brings her child over to visit and stays in the family room. Correct?
How often and how long is the child there? If it's anything less than a couple of hours, and the child is staying in the family room, I honestly don't believe the child's exposure to smoke will be supremely harmful. It's one thing to smoke in the same room with a child for days/weeks/years but if it's only for a few hours every so often and the smoke is contained to one room of the house (I assume you close the door) then your sister might be overreacting a bit.
