I know its not right to smoke while breastfeeding and I don't… Just want to know if I do have a cigarette, do the toxins go straight into breastmilk and are there any health risks for the baby? Also how long before and after feeding can I have one?
… just wondering…
Suggestion:
I am not in the mood to look up a bunch of info (as it is readily available if you do a search) but breastfeeding even if you smoke is STILL considered better for your baby than formula feeding….according to the AAP, WHO, etc – so if people want to rag on smoking breastfeeding moms they better start with Formula feeding moms first. I am REALLY tired of people making breastfeeding out to be almost like you have to be mother theresa & a vegan to be worthy of offering your milk to your child. No wonder so many don't want to do it – we make it sound hideous restrictive.
Sorry – bad mood tonight I guess. :/ I just HATE when a breastfeeding woman asks any question where she is planning to do something other than eat celery & sit in sack cloth & people all start on the "your baby's health is more important why risk it" and they haven't even looked at the REAL data on the topic (you know, studies, facts, recommendations, etc). It is ALWAYS better if you don't do anything that has any potential health risks (even of only for yourself) so of COURSE it is better not to smoke, but for heaven's sake – how come it is okay to act like someone ought to be berated if they have a cigarette or glass of wine while they are a breastfeeeding mom – but it is fine to formula feed & do whatever the flip you want? It's just so backwards & weird to me and TOTALLY discourages breastfeeding in general.
