I have read you aren't supposed to use an electronic cigarette without already having a nicotine addiction. Is that just so you wont get addicted to nicotine, or is there a real reason why you shouldn't??
Suggestion:
You don't need to put nicotine in an ecig to use it so it's not about nicotine addiction. Nicotine is fairly similar to caffeine in action.
The only real problem I know of is that there are no long term studies of how vapour effects your body. It might be good, it might be bad but we don't know and won't know for a generation.
Lungs evolved to deal with fresh air so anything else – pollution, smoke or propylene glycol vapour could cause problems. Propylene glycol is the ingredient that's commonly used to create the vapour and it's been used in children's hospital wards to disinfect the air over a two year period with beneficial effects. It's also used in asthma inhalers and fog machines.
Of course some people object on an idealogical basis – they don't want to see people doing what looks like the demonised smoking – a completely selfish, unscientific and moralistic argument to curtail the freedoms of independent adults.
It's a more tricky argument when it comes to young people. Some will smoke for whatever reason and having ecigs available for them is like allowing condoms for people who we know will not abstain.
