What works for that brother may not work for you, but it is no reason not to try. The worst that could happen is that it fails to make you stop smoking, and then you can go on to another technique. Whatever it takes, give it until you finally find that you are no longer smoking.

Like alcoholism, smoking is a difficult habit to break; however unlike the former, smoking appears to not have as many relapse to the habit. I think then that you only have to work very hard to break the habit in the first place. I think then you should be able to stay clean.
My dad died of lung cancer. I didn’t need a coroner to tell me that he had smoked himself into that condition in the first place. My friends don’t understand how this works for me, but every time I feel like smoking these days, I just remember what the darned thing did to my dad, I see his dying face wreaked with pain… it takes two seconds flat and the urge of smoking disappears.

If you are a sports person, you can think of smoking as an opponent that you have to best in competition. If you see yourself winning, much the same way as you would see yourself winning in a race or some other athletic event, you can also win over the brown studded stick. But you’ve really got to believe in yourself.
You can stop smoking too, if you try hard enough, and if you get yourself the best kind of help that you can. Some psychologists know of ways to make you talk yourself out of the habit, and I think that is an idea that you can explore. And if it doesn’t work for you, try something else. There are lots of other methods that help to stop smoking.
People who find it difficult to keep off of the cigarette do not really desire to. Of course they are addicted, but if they got themselves to a place where they couldn’t reach a cigarette easily, it might work for them. By the time they return to civilization, the thought of it could be repulsive to them.
Doing something physical has been known to help a lot of folks break their smoking habits. If you know of something recreational that you can do, then do it. If you don’t know of one, find it. There is no going too far when you are trying to break a habit like that.
Sometimes, chewing on gum can help to occupy your mind and being when you feel like smoking, at least until the urge passes away. After a while of doing that, the urges might not come so frequently anymore, and you would have broken the habit.
It’s not really as difficult as some people say it is – to stop smoking. Yes, I know it’s more difficult for some people than it is for others, but if you make up your mind to stop smoking, you will. Look for something that will help distract you from the craving for cigarettes if you are interested in breaking that habit once and for all. Sure I know it’s hard, but you wouldn’t be the first… and certainly you wouldn’t be the last either. So do it and be free at last.
You can attempt to stop smoking in the same way as you would handle being on a diet. When you are so hungry for a stick of cigarette to smoke, get into doing something else… or eating something that would not quite have the same harmful effects. You’d be surprised how many Americans have successfully stopped smoking this way.

Every time I watch a movie in which I see someone drag on a stick of cigarette, I feel like going out and getting one myself. But since I told myself I was never going back to that habit, I have been changing the channel. I think we all could use a little help like that. Anything to not think about it.
When that monster rears its ugly head again, kick it in with a bout of something else that you love to do; something that will take your mind away to something else. The urge to smoke will surely come back another time, but just go on ahead and do the same thing all over again. That is the best way to deal with the urge.
