Dear Friend,
Taking a smoking cessation pill to aid you in your efforts to quit smoking is commendable. But don’t rest on the thoughts that the pill can just miraculously make you stop smoking.
Smoking is itself one of if not the most addictive behaviors for you to engage in. Ozzy Osborne the hugely successful rock and roll musician, says of the many things he has been addicted to, nothing pales in comparison to cigarettes. This serves as a warning to you that though you can kick the habit so much of the effort and power will come from you and not a pill.
Don’t get me wrong, there are a few very successful quit smoking pill treatments available in the United States and around the globe. But the fallacy many people have is that “this pill the doctor gave me will stop me from smoking.” I am not being harsh here just sharing the facts.
Now, to understand something about smoking here is that it is not just a physical process. It involves the brain, nicotine, and habits that form beliefs that are really strong.
You want proof? Here’s proof.
Step one, for one day and one day only. Just monitor yourself. That means take one of those ten cent note pads you can get at Kmart or Wal Mart. Every time you feel a little urge or tug to smoke write down the time. That is it. After one day if you do this exercise you will have all the proof you need that the cigarettes control YOU!
At days end you should have a list like this…
6:15 Smoked 1st cigarette
7:39 Smoked another one on the way to work
8:47 Late for staffing meeting and smoked two more cigarettes
10:58 Took smoke break as usual – had one cigarette
1243 Out for lunch had another one
2:58 Needed another cigarette to keep me awake before teleconference
5:00 Time to lite up another one on my commute home
If you take Chantix as your choice in quit smoking pill drugs, you will still have all of these habits built up. Habits do not become habits over night. They take at least 21 days according to Zig Ziglar and Anthony Robbins.
That is good or bad habits all take about this amount of time. Add in the fact that the cigarettes have a highly addictive drug like nicotine in it and you probably got addicted much sooner.
Whether its Chantix or Zyban, the drugs have been scientifically proven to work in the majority of patients. Some people do better than others. But the reality is that you have to BRING the will power. No drug will give you the will power. Only your desire for a healthier life and the ability to take long walks and enjoy yourself can fuel that desire. It has to come from within. No doctor can give that to you. You must bring it to the floor!
With any quit smoking pill there is a monetary expense. The expense is minimal compared to how much you spend each month on cigarettes. This is just the direct cost of cigarettes. A pack of smokes today will run you about $5.00 U.S. Dollars. This extrapolated over 30 days is $150.00 bucks a month. Over one year its about $1800.00 dollars just in smokes. No costs are tallied for the lighter or the cost of health care related expenses.
For your information the smokers disease COPD is the 4th leading cause of death in the U.S. One emergency room visit for a COPD patient will run about $8,000. Amazing isn’t it?
So, now you have just a few of the numbers here. This is still not a complete picture because when you are smoking and developing COPD, you miss more work…and we could go on and on here.
Is Chantix worth it? You will have to answer that one for yourself. The answer though is screaming at you with this data. You don’t even have to worry about how to “afford” Chantix.
