Practical Methods to Stop Smoking

When quitting smoking, it is necessary to consider in practical terms a time that is good both internally and externally because it will benefit us in the long run. Any day is a good time to quit if you are ready, and if we follow a useful set of guidelines, we can achieve this.

One can start by delaying the time of the first cigarette every day, because the first one leads to the next. Even before you first light up, stop and think for a moment the reasons that lead to smoking and the consequences, pros and cons.

Surely, we get many more negative responses than positive if we really think about it. Next, try removing a few more cigarettes from your daily consumption, such as mid-morning or late afternoon, thus reducing the amount gradually. It is important to banish the idea that smoking relaxes, it is shown to have the opposite effect.

At home, try to wash everything that now smells of smoke so that your home has little as possible to remind you of smoking (curtains, carpets, bedding, upholstery …) then make it a practice to not smoke inside. Keep everything smelling clean.

We should also avoid smoking in the presence of others, and especially in places where there is very little space and others are forced to breathe the smoke (for example, smoking in a car).

Exercise also helps a lot, no need to hit the gym every day or run a marathon, but start with walking daily for fifteen minutes, which will help expand your lungs and airways will start to open again . It may seem very difficult at first because the first three days are the most critical, but from the fifth you will see that you have far more energy and feel renewed.

It’s time to revisit our favorite hobbies to keep a busy mind and relaxing without resorting to cigarettes.  Also avoid foods that might stimulate the desire to smoke. It is also recommended to go to relaxation classes such as yoga or pilates, because we learn to breathe properly and to control our desires. When feeling withdrawal, you should turn to substitutes such as candy, gum or licorice.

It is important to sleep an average of eight hours, because this contributes to improved overall health, relaxes tension and lessens the assault of a sudden urge to smoke. For this, if you normally have insomnia, we recommend an infusion of lime before bedtime or maybe Melatonin which is a natural sleep aid.

You can quit smoking if you really try. Tens of thousands before you have kicked the habit. Set a goal and target date and stick to it no matter what.
