Possible Panosteitis.. but Other Symptoms. Vets Aren't Sure. Help?

So I asked a question yesterday about a lab/boxer/pit mix with possible panosteitis. They're doing radiographs in the morning to check it out. Thing is, there are other symptoms involved which don't seem to be connected to their theory. I was wondering if anyone had any insight. He is a 5-6 month old boxer/lab/pit cross who has been eating Medi-Cal Adolescent formula.

His symptoms: Severe pain in his shoulder
Apparently low red blood cell and white blood cell count
They said they found traces of things in his system that are similar to that of rat poison. This isn't my dog so I'm not sure if there's any more to what they've found, this is just all I know. The owner of the dog does smoke in his car, but not when the dog is in there. Since cigarettes can have some nasty stuff in them, is it possible that traces of it were inhaled while the dog was in the car (not while the owner was smoking) but from it being like, stuck to the fabrics in the car? And then appeared similar to rat poison from the ingredients? Believe me, this dog did NOT eat rat poison, nor was anywhere near it.

What would explain low red/white blood cell count? Is there anything that has similar symptoms to pano plus low blood cell count? Anything that explains all of this? They trust their vet 100% and they are working hard to find out what it is, but I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this? Right now the dog is on a high dose of pain meds and won't even stand up. He's got IV fluids going into him and well and is breathing very heavily (told it could be a side-effect of the pain meds)

Sorry for the huge/confusing wall of text. Thanks for any insight!

Suggestion:

I'm by far not an expert at these kind of things but i looked up pano and it does have alot of possibilities with the bone marrow. With bone marrow problems you would get a low red and white blood count. I believe this could be the reason for those two tests. However for the things that are like rat poison he could have picked up anywhere. Could be from a pesticide that was on the grass outside anything like that I doubt he picked it up off from the car. Hope this helps and hope the dog gets Better to.
