Why is this government trying to inflicting more nanny state laws on us do they think we are all daft i think we all know the dangers of smoking and banning smoking in public places has been pretty effective at closing the public places down look at pub closures ,bingo halls etc we where told that all the non smokers would arrive in droves to fill these smoke free venues well where are they .Now they want to ban smoking in cars what next no barbeque at home no burning garden rubbish only flame free incense and candles to be sold why do we put up with it .Why don't they ban planes from flying over our cities or cars and buses from driving near our schools and parks or old people freezing in the winter or getting mugged on the street what about stopping the easy flow of drugs around our country and killing all our youth none of this will happen because its hard so lets pick an easier target smokers
Suggestion:
Smoking will eventually be made completely illegal and alcohol will follow around 10-20 years later. You only have to look at all the negative press both have been receiving for the past several years to know it is going that way. People are too cowardly in the UK and are terrified from the government that is why they can sit around all day thinking up new laws which take away our freedom.
'When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty'…Thomas Jefferson

I had to suffer smoking in the car when I was married and so did my children. It is totally selfish to inflict it on others in a confined space. There shouldn't need to be a law. Having the window open doesn't work either, it merely blows it back onto the back seat and into the faces of the children, who obviously daren't complain.
The story was that the Royal College of Physicians wants the UK government to ban smoking in cars, not the UK government is banning smoking in cars. It is just advice from one body of medical experts.
I don't know if 'banning' smoking in cars right. and I agree with resistance to the 'nanny state' school of politics BUT I never get into confined spaces of any sort where people are smoking. Smoking is a DUMB habit anywhere.
It's another example of government stupidity and it can never be policed..If they want to stop us smoking, make the whole thing illegal and remove all ways of buying tobacco..Ahh,ofcourse they won't do that, they make too much revenue out of us……….

I only get UK questions so it's showing up ok on mine, maybe it's you that's wandered into the UK section.
I will smoke in my car whenever I want, sod any new laws if they decide to go ahead with them.
