Is It True That There is an Illness/disease out There That Smoking Cigarettes Can Speed Up the Treatment?

I knew someone who had to start smoking cigarettes because of a disease they had, but i completly forgot which one it was.

Suggestion:

The only smoking that I've heard of that can ease the side effects of certain cancers, glaucoma, etc. is marijuana where some states have legalized the medical use of this weed. I've never heard of smoking cigarettes in order to speed up treatment its usually treatment for the effects of cigarette smoking.
