I'm 20 years old. In high school, I had friends that always pressured me into trying to smoke a joint with them. I never did though. Smoking had no appeal for me. It still doesn't. But there are times that I wish I could try it…I just won't smoke.
A friend yesterday said he could do pot brownies if I didn't like to smoke.
So I guess my question is, if I really wanted to try it, is this my best alternative?
And is there any different side effects from eating it rather than smoking it?
Suggestion:
As the other posters said, it does take a lot more pot to make brownies as opposed to just smoking it in a bowl. Here are some alternatives that I've had success with.
1. When you make brownies, typically the recipe calls for making pot butter to replace the oil in the recipe. The butter is actually what contains the THC, so why not just use the butter? Spread it on a peice of toast with some jam.
2. Vaporize. The way a vaporizer works is it heats up the pot to the point where vapors are let off and typically collected in a bag or, if you have a cheaper version, a long tube that you take your hit from. This is the most healthy way to "smoke" pot, but it's not really smoking it per se, you're simply inhaling the vapors that contain the THC. If you do it right, there's no smoke involved at all.
3. Tea. I'm guessing your friend has a collection of stems and seeds lying around. Most pot smokers love to collect the seeds and stems (I'm not really sure what the fascination is, but I do it too). Some pot smokers collect the seeds to one day grow their own (even though they probably never will). Anyways, you get a coffee filter, put the collection of seeds, stems, and maybe a few buds, into the center of the filter and tie up the ends. Get a big sauce pan and start boiling some water. Put your tea bag into the water and wait, stirring every so often. Sometimes I put some loose leaf tea in my tea bags so that the color will change and you kind of know when your tea is done. Let it soak in the hot water as long as possible before removing it. And once you remove it, squeeze out any extra water that may be left in your tea bag. You can either enjoy the tea hot or refrigerate it and enjoy it cold. Make sure to add some sweetener, because it won't taste like your typical tea.
Consuming pot, as opposed to smoking it, will produce more of a body high than a head high. You'll feel all loosey goosey. It does take more time to reach any type of high, because when you smoke it, the THC enters your system directly from your lungs. However, when you consume it, it must travel through your digestive system before it enters your blood stream. There are no different side effects aside from the heightened body sensations.
Either way, I'd take your friend up on the offer. Just remember to eat one brownie, then wait 15 mins. before eating another. Don't be impatient and eat the whole batch because you're not feeling the high, it's on it's way and will knock you over if you ingest too much at one time. Just sit back, relax, watch a movie or something, and you'll notice the difference soon enough.
Just one more tip: the night you decide to try the brownies, please stock up on healthy munchies. Once you obtain a high, you'll want to raid the cupboards and eat anything that looks good. But overloading on sweet or salty snacks will make you uber sick in the morning. Try to have some veggies lying around, or at the very least, a healthy alternative to an entire bag of potato chips.
