i have been smoking for 6 months now and the last 3 have been heavy… i want to know if i tried giving up soon when would my lungs be the same for fitness?
Suggestion:
6 months is not a very long time. Your lungs are probably not that much different now than they were when you started. Your can do fitness regardless of how long you have been smoking, though.

the sooner you quit the better. when you quit smoking your lungs do an auto clean, now thats not to say they will be perfect like when you were a kid but they will be better than they are now and with a little work you'd be fine .
it all depends on how much you smoked per given day but ya the sooner the better
well I quit in dec 09. cold turkey after 8 yrs smoking 15-20 / day. After about a month i could feel the diffrence. lungs are heaps better. now i have about 1 ciggy a week when i drink heavily. works ok for me
Yes you would get your lungs back normally . Within 20 minutes of stopping smoking your blood pressure, pulse rate and body temperature return to normal.Within 8 hours the carbon monoxide level in your blood returns to normal and your smokers-breath begins to disappear. Within 3 days your chance of having a heart attack decreases and your nerve endings begin to redevelop. Your ability to smell and taste improves dramatically. Breathing also becomes easier. Within 2 months your circulation improves. Lungs become cleaner which reduces chance of infection.
