Have You Talked to Your Kid Today About the Risks of Smoking?

Actually, I talk to my kids a lot about the risk of smoking, drugs, unprotected sex, irresponsibility, impatience, unfocused driving, etc…yes, to the point I am completely annoying…I am driving the message HOME. They have been to work with me on "Kids day at Work", I work in an ER and they have seen the worst, unfortunately, but also fortunately. My son right at this moment is away with his girlfriend at his Senior Prom…my last words… do the right thing, no drugs, no alcohol, no sex, have a wonderful time; gave him money for a taxi if judgment is not together and have always encouraged abstinence, but know that is not always the way teenagers think, so I have also provided him with condoms (perhaps to some, that might be saying sex is okay, but to me it is saying, teenagers will do what they want, and at least give them the opportunity to contribute to being responsible). I personally know you can't stop anyone from doing what they want, but you can teach them how to be responsible. Smoking cigarettes…my kids won't go there, weed, they might try. Hopefully they will have enough self esteem and ambition to pass it on and pursue their dreams, everyone is tested at one point in their lives. I think they'll pass, I know they'll pass…yes, they might experiment, but they'll return with flying colors. Cigarettes neither, never.
