Given the Fuss About a Couple of Methadrone Deaths Why is Smoking Still Legal?

Something like 500 people a day die of smoking related desease in this country yet it is still legal? I know these idiots know the risks but should they be protected from themselves?

Suggestion:

Study the statistics of people who die with lung cancer and have NEVER touched a cigarette. That's scary. My mom has a spot on her lung and she's never smoked. Two woman my sister works with at a VA hospital had lung cancer, one lived and one died and NEITHER smoked a cigarette a day in their life. Tammy Faye Bakker…NEVER SMOKED. Did you see her?

Because Tobacco is a big income for Governments.
Plus – that pension you have to pay into – goes mainly to the government if you die in your 60's
So they get an active workforce – paying taxes on everythig they do, and when it comes time to sit down and enjoy a promised pension – you die. Inheritance tax, funeral taxes etc take all the money back.
It makes economic sense for people to die before collecting a pension.

BUT – you can't have the masses enjoying themselves without being taxed on it – so it will be made illegal.
Drugs are either made legal – and taxed – or made illegal and penalties issued.

The government only care about taxing, selling and protecting the rights of the caffeine, tobacco, alcohol and pharmaceutical industries. These industries dominate the market for recreational and medicinal drugs and have a great deal of power in controlling who and what enters the market with them.

Political and media tactics such as the banning of Mephedrone are all too common, especially coming up to the election. I recall that cannabis was upgraded to Class B without any medical, scientific, lawful or social evidence to suggest that the potential harm grading of cannabis need be altered.

Banning drugs like Mephedrone will only serve to hand out criminal records at high costs to us, the taxpayer. The belief that introducing new laws to restrict supply of it is only a security blanket over the truth. The truth is that people still don't know the risks about using this drug, people will continue to produce, supply and use the drug, and all in the name of government ignorance.

The unfortunate fatalities related to its' usage are due to those who mixing this stimulant with other conflicting drugs such as alcohol (depressant), ketamine (tranquilliser) and methadone (opiate). If people were properly advised and warned of the consequences that arise with drug interactions such as these then the chances of harm would be dramatically reduced.

I've used many drugs in my life, including Mephedrone. I fail to see why all the fuss to get it made illegal. I don't find it addictive and it has done me no physical or psychological harm whatsoever. Personally I found alcohol more of a destructive substance in my life.

As a smoker, I know the dangers of tobacco. I would never suggest though that smoking should be made illegal, nor would I feel that it be anybody else's choice but my own to make me quit. That is called freedom. Freedom to choose!

You might choose extreme sports such as my favourite, rock climbing, and die from a falling boulder, you might choose to drive and die in an unavoidable collision, you might just die from falling down the stairs. It is your choice to do these things as you are free to do so. It is my choice to explore new drugs and experiences and it is nobodies right to deny me of these things. The risks are my own.

If you ban one, ban them all. If one is legal, make them all legal. But please, educate people and give them the support they need when they need it. We've just seen the seventh drugs advisor quit the ACMD due to lack of confidence in the way our drugs laws are being enforced, how many more will suffer because our government want to turn a blind eye on society?
