There comes a time when we finally decide that we need to get away and that a rehab is an option. On the flip side, we also sometimes decide as a family, friend or company that we are going to help and so we decide to help place a person in a rehab. The problem is that so often, we are emotional and so we can make a wrong decision and so we waste the opportunity. Rehabs are costly and so its best to take a step back from the situation or get some professional advice on the way forward. Rehabs are generally broken up into three types. Long term, short term and then various secondary reintegration programmes.
A long term rehab is normally needed in a highly critical situation. The time span associated with such programmes can be anything between 6-24 months. Most of these rehabs concentrate on strict discipline and a system of the patient really learning responsibility and accountability for themselves. There are some serious consequences for wrong actions. And also most include a daily work allocation.
A short term rehab is often an option for a patient that is still employed and needs a short season to reboot and dry out”. The average time frame is normally between 14-28 days. These programmes consist of medication, support groups and individual counselling.
The last of the three mentioned is the secondary reintegration rehab. These are effective and work well in conjunction with the two mentioned above. The patient is working and living in normal society but has certain boundaries and restrictions for their protection. The house or centre normally has a few “recovering” addicts that live together and a person in charge, managing the normal house duties etc.
In conclusion, Its not an easy option and its never an easy time. Each rehab has its own agenda and so often we can be mislead. Its really a time to hasten slowly and ask for the right advice from people that actually do have your interests at heart.
