Does Your Smoking Tobacco Hurt Your Family ?

It is a fact that tobacco is the second major cause of death in the world. It is currently responsible for the death of one in ten adults worldwide (about 5 million deaths each year). If current smoking patterns continue, it will cause some 10 million deaths each year by 2020. Half the people that smoke today -that is about 650 million people- will eventually be killed by tobacco.

Tobacco is the fourth most common risk factor for disease worldwide. The economic costs of tobacco use are equally devastating. In addition to the high public health costs of treating tobacco-caused diseases, tobacco kills people at the height of their productivity, depriving families of breadwinners and nations of a healthy workforce. Tobacco users are also less productive while they are alive due to increased sickness.
Tobacco and poverty are inextricably linked. Many studies have shown that in the poorest households in some low-income areas as much as 10% of total household expenditure is on tobacco. This means that these families have less money to spend on basic items such as food, education and health care. In addition to its direct health effects, tobacco leads to malnutrition, increased health care costs and premature death. It also contributes to a higher illiteracy rate, since money that could have been used for education is spent on tobacco instead.

Do you think your smoking possibly hurts your family ?

Now let's see the statistics on junk food…

I think everyone who smokes already knows it's bad for them. They aren't stupid.

Yes

Oh it STINKS. Smell is intolerable.

In today's times…You have a better chance to die from the stress of paying bills & over the loss of jobs then smoking a million cigarettes! I have a idea? Let's ban money! & by the way? you copied that from some article you read…As far as hurting my family? Everyone is fine & healthy. Even my 82 year old mother who smokes & been around it all her life….I will end this by saying…You & me are both going to die & I bet you will go first while I puff away on my cigarettes. 52 & love my smokes!

Hehe… I always wonder why people use "Tobacco" where they should use the word "cigarettes".

I'm a pipe smoker, son of a pipe smoking father, grandson of a pipe smoking granfather, and my mother doesn't smoke but she enjoys the smell too (because unlike cigarettes I've smelled, pipe tobacco smells wonderful… like REAL tobacco should). Pipe tobacco is traditionally not inhaled, so pipe smokers need to worry about oral cancer, but provided they're smoking in a well ventilated area, "second hand" effects can be minimized.

Additionally, while cigarette smokers oftentimes become addicted to nicotine, pipe and cigar smokers don't. Comparing me, a pipe smoker, to an addicted cigarette smoker, is like comparing a fine wine taster to an alcoholic… Yes, alcohol kills, alcohol is addicted, alcoholics affect the lives of people around them, but the responsible consumption of the occasional glass of wine is NOT going to kill you… And in the same respect… Yes, tobacco kills, tobacco is addictive, smokers affect the lives of people around them, but the occasional cigar isn't going to kill you either.

I genuinely believe my smoking improves my quality of life.
