Do Electronic Cigarettes Mimic Smoking Closely Enough to Satisfy a Die-hard 30-year Smoker?

I'm thinking of getting my mom an electronic cigarette. She's been smoking for over 30 years, and has tried everything to quit (nicotine gum, patches, etc). Since nicotine replacement hasn't worked for her, it must be more than just the nicotine, it's also the psychological/mental aspect of actually smoking the cigarette.

So, how likely is it that she can switch over to the much-safer electronic cigarette and feel satisfied enough to not go back to real cigarettes? Are electronic cigarettes that good, or are they a gimmick?

Thanks!

Suggestion:

Honestly, I don't think you'll be able to know until you try her on them. I've known smokers who they've worked for and smokers who have gotten nothing from them. It does substitute for more psychological aspects of cigarette smoking than nicotine patches, but there are still many aspects missing like certain components of the taste and texture.

If nicotine replacement did not work for your mom, I think she's less likely to be receptive to e-cigarettes. But you probably will not know for sure unless you try.

Skip to the bottom of this page and you'll find surveys that will give an idea of who tends to use ecigs and why: http://vapersnetwork.org/node/8

Most users appear to be die hard smokers who do not want to quit smoking.

Not everybody finds it acceptable but the ones who do often say it works where NRT is useless or cold turkey isn't an option.
