Can Smoking Effect Me So Young?

Im 18 and i asked a question about me coughing up so much mucus in the past 3 days i cant stop coughing and someone said i should go to the doctors especially if im a smoker
well lets start with my smoking history:
mum smoked while pregnant with me and yet non of my 3 other siblings
and im the only smoker out of my siblings
i started taking smokes from my mums packets when i was 12 being a little sht and all thinking it was cool then started smoking 10-15 a day at 15 still thinking its "cool" and all
then last year 30-40 a day for a year at 16 turning 17 when i got hooked
then cut down to 5 for 6 months but couldn't give them up completely
and now im smoking 20-30 a day
has the damage been done already?
can my lungs repair them self if i quit
and any tips on quiting thanks

Suggestion:

you may be genetically addicted your mothers addictions passed on to yours .but yeah if you stop smoking your body will start to repair itself but to aid its healing drink water and eat healthy until you feel your health is restored but the damage already caused to your lungs may be to damaged but i doubt it coz that happens After about 25 years to 40 years of smoking !
