I have to go in for a checkup soon, and my family doesn't know i smoke. and i would rather they didn't know. due to the fact im 14. So, i'd like to know if the doctor would be able to tell im a smoker?
Suggestion:
no, they won't be able to tell unless you just smoked before the appointment (which I'm sure you wouldn't do, if your parents take you). if the doctor asks if you've ever smoked or done drugs, tell him you're only going to answer the question if he will maintain doctor-patient confidentiality and NOT tell your parents A WORD.
(or you could start off the appointment by asking your doctor if you can tell him things and he won't tell your parents, again bring up the issue of doctor-patient confidentiality and that you will not be honest with him if he cannot provide that for you. the only things a doctor is required to inform your parents of would be if you were suicidal or had an eating disorder)
you're at the age where you are able to prevent the dr from telling your parents about your medical history (this is how teens are able to get birth control without their parents finding out–it's totally legal). you just need to make sure the doc is on the same page with you before you say something.

They might be able to tell if you cough or smell it on your breath. Most of this stuff is confidential where you can tell your doctor and your parents won't know, but it's no guarantee.
lol not unless u've smoked like a pack a day for years which i highly doubt u have.
usually if you've been smoking for a while, they can tell by looking at your teeth. just don't bring it up unless he asks directly if you smoke, but then i guess you should tell the truth, because doctors need to know these things. he probably won't tell your parents because there is doctor patient confidentiality.. but then again, you are a minor, so i don't know.
No not now they couldn't b/c you haven't been doing it long but later on down the line they can when they do a chest x-ray and see how black your lungs are. If u search the web and type in pictures of a healthy non smoking lung and pictures of a smoker's lungs u can see a big difference but u haven't been smoking long enough yet to have black lungs.
