Gyms can be expensive. And inconvenient. Your daily tasks stack up and before you know it, it’s evening and you never made it to the gym. And traveling can put a real crimp in a workout schedule. If your workout routine depends on having access to a gym, then many times you find yourself in locations where you miss workouts due to not having access to a facility. Gym workouts are great, but developing an at home workout will give you an alternative when your schedule or location doesn’t allow you to get into a health club facility.
Portability is one of the key benefits of an effective at home workout. It works for you wherever you are whether it’s in a hotel room, your den, or on a beach. The focus of a good at home workout is on using your body weight as resistance to work the body’s core muscle groups. Unlike what you hear from your local health club salesperson, it doesn’t take using machines and weights to develop world class muscles and endurance. Your body can actually provide sufficient resistance in a variety of exercises to build muscle, develop agility, and increase endurance.
Body weight is actually a superior form of resistance to use in exercise. Using body weight exercises you can emphasize the core muscles of the body. Hand stand push-ups while propped against a wall, basic push-ups, and trunk twists are all examples of body weight exercises that work key core muscle groups. And unlike exercises utilizing weights or especially machines, these body weight exercises force you work multiple muscle groups together in a coordinated fashion.
This develops “real world” strength and endurance. What is “real world” strength? An effective at home workout develops strength using real world movements that require not only strength, but also balance, flexibility, and agility. Performing a set of tricep push-downs may develop a great pair of guns (arms), but what practical real world tasks are made easier by having big triceps? Big triceps aren’t going to help much when it comes to swinging a tennis racket, lifting a heavy box, or pushing a sofa up a flight of steps.
All those shiny machines and weights in your local gym tend to be used in exercises that focus on isolated movements that work a specific muscle. Certainly appropriate for athletes in sports like football and soccer. And for body builders. But for the rest of us, a good at home work out can build overall core, practical strength, body coordination, and flexibility. It’s this kind of fitness that will help your golf game, improve your endurance on the court, and make it easier to lift a couch up a flight of stairs.
An effective at home workout can be done anywhere. An effective at home workout will not depend on machines, dumbbells, or big exercise balls (although having these can certainly enhance a body weight workout). An effective at home workout will work all the core muscles of the body and will help you develop real world strength, flexibility, and coordination.
Is it time for a change in your workout routine? Do you want to increase your strength, build muscle, and develop more endurance? Do you want a workout you can do anywhere, any time? Then you want the Bodyweight Exercise Revolution.
